Susumu Hirosegawa

Susumu is another G-Men artist. His works are definitely on the harsher side of the scale, I haven’t put up some of his images here as they are quite intense (I’ve put the ’softer’ ones up here!), so if you would like to see them then let me know.

This is a new breathtaking work by Jiraiya. It’s an original work presented on a traditional Japanese folding screen. The work itself is pretty big, nearly two metres in length and looks stunning folded out in all it’s (his) glory (the picture below doesn’t do it full justice. On exhibit in Sydney, February 25th-March 6th.

Viva lesbian art

There was only one lesbian artist who joined Mardi Gras exhibition. I felt sorry for any lesbians who visited the exhibition as they were presented with lots of images of gay men. To be honest, it’s difficult to find Japanese lesbian artists, as it’s hard to find the lesbian community in Japan. There are some lesbian bars in Japan, for sure, but to find bars and parties is different to find artists. It’s rare to meet someone who says ‘I’m a lesbian’ in public. There are only websites which are fantasy for men. I was looking for lesbian artists in many ways, and eventually found an artist who could be bisexual

She is Mari Yamagiwa who has been doing business with Mayumi International. Her artwork has many lesbian collectors. I asked her directly if she is lesbian or bisexual. Her answer was “….”. Yes, it’s a secret. I got a hunch from her works and found some artists whose works imply lesbian taste. Kana Yoshida, Mana Yamamoto and Aran. They are making their artworks based on their personal fantasy. I’m not sure if they are lesbian artists. But I can clearly say all of them are women’s fantasy for women. That’s the lesbian art. I’m not sure if they are lesbian. Of course they could be lesbian, and that’s maybe why they agree with the upcoming exhibition for Mardi Gras and joined it. Viva Viva!!! Lesbian art, banzai!

DNA magazine issue #121

DNA magazine issue #121

Check out this months issue of DNA magazine for a great article on Japanese gay art (issue #121). I was interviewed for the article, and a lot of the artists that I have featured on this blog are in the article as well. Big thanks to Joseph Brennan for taking such a huge interest and writing the article! You can purchase a copy of the issue online.

In case you don’t know about DNA magazine, it is Australia’s leading gay publication and features a lot of buff guys as well as articles about goings on in the Australian gay scene. There is often quite a few features on art and artists, so its worth checking out. Not sure about availability outside Australia.

KOW – New touch and feel artist

I happened to find this new sculpture artist from a Japanese community website. His name is KOW, and I thought he might be able to make something interesting after I saw his 3D artwork. I asked him to make artwork which is pop and has a sense of the erotic. An erotic and pop artist has been born from my suggestion. All his works are new and it’s the first time for KOW to exhibit his works overseas. Pick up and hold his work okay? Oh, this size is familiar? It reminds you of something? And, it’s cute.

I’d like to have your feedback! I’d like you to touch and see his artworks! You can check these works out at our exhibition for Mardis Gras, Come and play.
