ANJI

I’d like to introduce a new artist who has proved to be quite popular on his introduction to the art scene. ANJI is neither a gay illustrator nor gay artist. He is a CG artist, interpreting computer art in his own unique style. He had never exhibited his works in the gay or art scene in either Japan or overseas prior to exhibiting as part of the group exhibition I put on in Sydney last Mardis Gras. Prior to pursuing art, he was active as a space designer. The major reason why he started creating his works came from a recognition of the need for art to color spaces, when he was looking for the meanings of interiors. His use of sophisticated color and sense of composition seems to come from Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), which he learned previously. The motif he uses in his work is man and flowers, although he also draws woman and flowers.

His debut at Mardis Gras 2009 was a big success, and to be honest, I as well as he was overwhelmed by the response. I will show more of his works in 2010 than we showed last year. I highly recommend him. His works which were shown in Australia this year sold out and his new works will be seen in Sydney Mardi Gras 2010. Don’t miss it!
